Massage Envy, the pioneer and national leader of affordable and convenient massage and spa services, has joined forces with the Arthritis Foundation to host Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one‐day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight arthritis. On World Arthritis Day, October 12, 2011, Massage Envy DFW will donate $10 from every one‐hour massage and facial session to the Arthritis Foundation.

“Our massage therapists see firsthand the crippling effects of arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability,” said Lance O’Pry, Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Developer for Massage Envy. “Arthritis affects one in five adults and 300,000 children. That gives a special urgency to building awareness and funding research.”

Reservations are being accepted on a first‐come, first‐serve basis. All proceeds donated during Healing Hands for Arthritis will support the Arthritis Foundation’s nationwide efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. Additionally, Murad®, Massage Envy Spa’s strategic skin care partner, will donate 10 percent of all sales from its products sold at Massage Envy Spa locations during the event to the Arthritis Foundation.

Wendy Wright is training to run a half marathon. “My son, Cohen, is the best reason for me to run and raise money for a cure for Crohn’s disease,” says the owner of Massage Envy Spa South 360 in Grand Prairie.

Wendy was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 2002. The chronic disorder inflames the small intestine or colon. The inflammation leads to ulcerations and bowel injury. Symptoms include fatigue, abdominal pain, fever and weight loss.

As many as one in four Crohn’s patients have a close relative with the disease, so Wendy knows there’s a chance that her son Cohen will be affected. Crohn’s most often strikes adolescents and young adults but can also affect young children. Some 10 percent of Crohn’s patients are under age 18.

“So far I have been lucky and have only had mild symptoms from this very debilitating disease,” Wendy said. “When I heard about the Team Challenge run, I jumped at the chance to join this cause.” She will run her half-marathon December 4 in Las Vegas.
