From Athletes to Amateurs – Massage Therapy Increases Effectiveness of Exercise, says Massage Envy

As health professionals continually learn more about the human body they are discovering that combining massage therapy with an exercise program will increase the benefits of any exercise.

Massage therapists at Massage Envy note that proper massage therapy will increase blood flow and create improved circulation throughout the body. Improved circulation causes an increase in oxygen being delivered to the muscles, which then results in increased endurance. The increase in oxygen also causes the muscles and body to expel toxins at a quicker rate and therefore reduces the time it takes the body to recover, also eliminating residual pain.

Massage therapists at the Massage Envy clinics in Dallas/Forth Worth have noticed a steady increase of athletes making appointments for massage therapy sessions. More and more athletes are including massage therapy as an integral aspect of their exercise regimens.

“It heightens the results of an athlete’s exercise routine,” says C.G. Funk, Licensed Massage Therapist and Vice President of Industry Relations and Product Development for Massage Envy. “Anything that gets your blood flowing throughout the body is going to really add to an exercise routine.”

Massage therapy also greatly improves one’s range of motion and overall muscle and joint strength, which prevents injuries to the muscles, joints, and tendons.

“You don’t have to be a professional football player,” says C.G. Funk of Massage Envy. “Massage therapy is going to enhance any level of exercise routine whether you’re getting paid to play or you’re just a casual walker.”

Any time new movements are introduced to the body, whether from exercise or natural action, stress and strain are introduced to muscles and joints which can cause stiffness and soreness. The integration of massage therapy sessions into a regular schedule will enhance the benefits of any exercise routine. Massage therapy will also help people maintain their health and general well-being.

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.

Managing Chronic Conditions with Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is becoming a very important aspect in the healthcare regimen of millions of chronic pain sufferers. While pain and discomfort may be alleviated with one massage session, regular, recurring sessions will have the greatest benefit.

Some experts even estimate that up to 90 percent of disease is stress related. Eliminating anxiety and stress completely is not a realistic goal, but regular massage therapy can decrease their effects which is what the massage therapists at Massage Envy have set out to do.

Regular massage sessions from licensed therapists at Massage Envy have been known to generate profound effects among clients suffering from a variety of chronic conditions – both young and old.

Some examples are…

Arthritis sufferers note fewer aches and less stiffness and pain
Asthmatic children show better pulmonary function and increased peak airflow
Burn injury patients report reduced pain, itching, and anxiety
High blood pressure patients demonstrate lower diastolic blood pressure, anxiety, and stress hormones
Premenstrual Syndrome sufferers have decreased water retention and cramping
As the medical community actively embraces massage therapy, it is becoming an integral aspect of neonatal care as well as hospice programs. Researchers are continually discovering benefits not just related to chronic diseases. Massage therapy and touch have shown to reduce symptoms from neurological disorders and injuries.

“The beauty of massage,” says C.G. Funk, Licensed Massage Therapist and Vice President of Industry Relations and Product Development for Massage Envy, “is that while a massage session feels great, there are also many therapeutic benefits. To a point, the more often you schedule massage sessions, the better you will feel.”

Consider scheduling regular appointments with a massage provider like Massage Envy when suffering from any chronic condition. The licensed therapists and professional administrators will be able to offer advice and guidance as to the type of therapy regimen that would be the most beneficial. It is always best to consult a physician as well.

Massage Therapy can Make you Taller – Improves Posture, says Massage Envy

While poor posture can make a person appear depressed, shy or even lazy, it can also have detrimental effects to our physical well-being. Many of our aches and pains can often be attributed to the way we go about our everyday lives – how we drive, sit, or simply stand. Massage therapy can actually have a positive impact on posture.

Massage therapists at Massage Envy say they can often see a difference in their clients’ postures as they have more therapy sessions. As clients engage in more massage sessions, their posture improves. They often notice that aches and pains also improve.

“Over long periods of time,” says C.G. Funk, Licensed Massage Therapist and Vice President of Industry Relations and Product Development for Massage Envy, “these bad habits can really break down the body and cause a lot of physical stress. Bad posture is a bad way to represent who you are, too. Maybe you’re trying to get a job or you’re on a first date. Bad posture can really affect first impressions of who you are.”

Consulting with a massage therapist, such as a licensed therapist from a Massage Envy clinic, about poor posture habits can result in massage sessions specifically designed to reduce physical stress and eliminate these bad habits. A consistent massage therapy program will loosen and relax pain points, giving joints more freedom while relieving pressure.

Loosening and relaxing the joints allows the body to position itself in a more natural position without discomfort. The movements and positions of bad posture are developed over time to avoid pain. Massage therapy can eliminate the bad habits of bad posture and help a person sit up, stand tall, and maintain a more natural position in their everyday lives.

Swedish vs. Deep Tissue Massage – Massage Envy Notes the Difference in Technique

When most people think of massage therapy the image they conjure up is typically of the Swedish massage technique. This technique is centuries old and originated in Stockholm, Sweden. According to massage therapists at Massage Envy, most people also mistakenly consider Swedish massage therapy identical to
deep tissue massage.

“We offer many different types of massages including Swedish and deep tissue massage at Massage Envy,” says C.G. Funk, Licensed Massage Therapist and Vice President of Industry Relations and Product Development for Massage Envy. “Most people don’t realize that there’s a difference between Swedish and deep tissue massages. In fact, most people are surprised when our therapists introduce them to all the styles of massage therapy that exist just to address specific symptoms.”

Swedish massage therapy at Massage Envy clinics involves the rubbing of muscles in long, gliding strokes in the direction of the blood returning to the heart. Circular pressure is applied by the hands and palms, along with firm kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending, and stretching

Deep tissue massage therapy sessions at Massage Envy are similar to Swedish massage sessions, except that the techniques are applied to deeper layers of the muscles. To access these deeper layers, the therapist will oftentimes use other tools besides their hands like forearms or elbows.

“Massage therapy has been shown to help with many conditions and disorders,” says Funk, of Massage Envy. “Deep tissue massage focuses on the deepest layers of muscle tissue hence the name. Clients requesting deep tissue should be aware that the techniques can leave the muscles sore for a few days while they heal and release.”

One of the great benefits of many the many styles of therapeutic massage is that it can increase the level of oxygen in the blood, expel toxins by encouraging circulation, increase flexibility and decrease tension and stress.

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.

Alleviate Symptoms of Prenatal Stress with Massage Therapy

While most people realize that massage therapy has many health benefits, many do not realize massage therapy can be a beneficial complementary aspect of a woman’s prenatal care regimen. Therapists at Massage Envy locations in DFW have noticed an increase in the number of pregnant women setting appointments for massage therapy sessions.

As the numbers increase, it has become clear that pregnant women are recognizing massage therapy can reduce stress while promoting general well-being. Pregnancy can be physically grueling and proper massage therapy can relieve many of the natural discomforts that come with carrying a child.

Therapists at Massage Envy have noted that prenatal patients have found relief from back aches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, and swelling from massage therapy sessions.

“We get a lot of calls and emails from pregnant women asking about how safe massage therapy is during pregnancy,” says C.G. Funk, Licensed Massage Therapist and Vice President of Industry Relations and Product Development for Massage Envy. “The truth is, not only is massage therapy safe, but it can be extremely beneficial. It helps to alleviate a lot of the physical stress of pregnancy.”

In addition to the benefits already mentioned, prenatal massage therapy sessions, like the sessions conducted at Massage Envy clinics, can reduce the stress on weight-bearing joints, increase lymph and blood circulation, help to relax nervous tension, and relieve depression and anxiety caused by changes in hormone levels. Alleviating any or all of these symptoms can result in better sleep patterns and an increase in energy.

Massage Envy’s licensed therapists place all prenatal patients in side-lying positions. A side-lying position eliminates extra strain to the lower back and pelvic area that would be incurred during a massage session in the typical position when pressure is applied. The position of the patient is very important because any extra strain can cause back pain and discomfort. However, for prenatal massage therapy during the first trimester patients may lay on their backs with a slight elevation beneath one hip.

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.

Weekly Massage Results in Life-Saving Diagnosis Massage Envy Therapist’s Advice Leads to Skin Cancer Prevention

For years, Dave Wilensky has known about the health benefits of therapeutic massage, but what he didn’t know was that his weekly Massage Envy appointments would play a role in saving his life.

Dave Wilensky frequently schedules appointments with Massage Envy. Kari Robles, massage therapist for Massage Envy has been treating Mr. Wilensky for quite some time.

After treating Mr. Wilensky week after week at Massage Envy, Ms. Robles noticed the appearance of a suspicious-looking mole on his back and recommended that Mr. Wilensky consult a dermatologist. After a few weeks of diligent urging by Ms. Robles about the seriousness of the issue, Mr. Wilensky left the Massage Envy clinic and made an appointment with a dermatologist.

Mr. Wilensky was diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma. Surgery was performed to remove the tissue and Mr. Wilensky received a clean bill of health.

The professionalism, knowledge, and care of Ms. Robles, along with her persistence at the Massage Envy clinic, resulted in a potentially life-saving procedure for Dave Wilensky.

Skin cancer ranks as the most common form of cancer in the United States. It’s vital to know the warning signs. For years, dermatologists have used an alphabet list to remind us what to watch for:

A = Asymmetry. One half doesn’t match the other.

B = Border. Ragged or ill-defined edges.

C = Color. Irregular pigmentation.

D = Diameter. Melanomas are usually about the size of a pencil eraser or larger.

E = Evolving. The mole changes, including texture or sensation.

Dermatologists also encourage watching for moles that look or feel different from neighboring moles – darker/lighter, larger/smaller or located in an otherwise clear area.

“This was a good story for Mr. Wilensky,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S. “We urge our therapists at Massage Envy to inform clients about anything out of the ordinary, but clients shouldn’t depend on massage sessions for a diagnosis of other conditions. We’re glad Mr. Wilensky took Ms. Robles advice.”

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.
