Billions of Dollars Spent by Back Pain Sufferers – Still in Pain Massage Relieves the Pain, Says Massage Envy

Back pain can be debilitating, but it can be effectively treated through proper massage techniques and the right plan of attack. Massage therapy reduces the need for painkillers by 36 percent according to a study from the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Massage therapy alleviates back pain by increasing blood flow, relaxing muscles, releasing endorphins, and restoring flexibility to tense muscles.

“Massage therapy may make the back quit aching right away, but don’t expect one session to cure all the pain,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S. “Your back pain didn’t start overnight, so don’t expect an overnight cure. However, a solid massage therapy wellness plan can help tremendously.”

Achieving long-term back pain relief depends on a varying number of factors; lifestyle, posture, and the severity of the pain. Sufferers of chronic back pain should develop a plan that includes a massage therapy session every three, to four weeks.

“It’s important to listen to your therapist,” says Massage Envy’s Funk. “A good therapist will give you homework that you need to stay on top of to get rid of the back pain.”

At Massage Envy clinics, this “homework” might consist of correcting posture, adjusting living and working spaces, and changing work habits. Exercise should also play a role with massage therapy to achieve maximum relief. Just be sure to consult a physician before embarking on a new exercise program.

According to a study that appeared in the Feb. 13 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association, total estimated medical costs associated with back and neck pain increased by 65 percent between 1997 and 2005, to about $86 billion a year.

Massage therapy is an effective and conservative approach when compared to the other options – plus, it feels good.

Not every Massage Therapist is a back pain expert. When seeking out back pain relief it’s important that the therapist be notified of the condition. At Massage Envy clinics, the front desk personnel are equipped with the knowledge to match clientele with therapists skilled in specific areas. With proper therapy and monitored exercise habits, back pain can be alleviated and even eliminated in the long term.

At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $39. Memberships are available for $49 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.

Meditation – Concentrating on Stress Relief Combine Meditation with Other Therapies, says Massage Envy

While meditation has roots in religion, anyone can benefit from the technique as a method for reducing stress. Combining meditation with other forms of relaxation therapy will have an even greater effect.

Here are a few therapeutic techniques that, when combined with meditation, will greatly enhance your well-being.

Massage – Massage Therapists urge meditative techniques during therapy sessions to create a more aware perspective. “Sometimes the therapists will have the client focus on their breath as a way of calming and centering, or they may coach the client to visualize a peaceful scene that creates a relaxation response,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S.

Music – Soft, soothing sounds and spirit-nurturing music will create a mood-shifting atmosphere and a nice foundation for a meditative ambience.

After your massage, you will be super relaxed. When you return home you may want to try finding a quiet place light some candles and focus on your breathing. Focus on positive constructive thoughts. You will be amazed at the difference this will have on your life.

By itself, meditation will help alleviate stress. When meditation is combined with these other techniques, the health benefits are multiplied.

How Often Should I Be Scheduling Massages? Massage Envy Answers the Common Massage Question

Therapists at Massage Envy have taken notice that clients are always asking about how often they should receive massages.

“The truth is,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S., “it depends on a number of things.”

Massage therapy not only decreases pain and tension in muscles, it’s also great for improving posture, promoting a healthy circulatory system, improving flexibility, relieving stress and strengthening the immune system.

The type of massage being received, the recommendations of the massage therapist, the physical condition of the client and time and finances, are all factors that determine the number of massages a person should have.

“For a general recommendation of massage frequency,” says Massage Envy’s Funk, “I would suggest receiving a massage at least twice a month in order to maintain the effects and results from each session.” While Funk gives a general recommendation of two massage sessions per month, receiving massage once a month will still produce great results when scheduled on a regular basis.

Stress Relief Doesn’t Just Feel Good, It’s Good for You

Common Link between Chronic Stress and Serious Health Issues

Doctors have linked chronic stress to a number of serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis and certain cancers. Stress can contribute to headaches, digestive problems, back pain, and difficulty sleeping.

“One of the most important benefits of massage therapy is the stress relief,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S. “Massage activates the nervous system and sends the body into rest and recovery mode.”

Reducing stress through massage therapy will have long-lasting health benefits, but what many don’t realize is that massage therapy will also relieve respiratory issues, aid in post-surgery rehabilitation, and aid in prenatal care. Relieving stress has a domino-effect in regards to other health benefits that people tend to overlook when considering a massage session.

Manage Fibromyalgia Pain Naturally with Soothing Massage, Says Massage Envy

Want to manage your fibromyalgia pain? Therapeutic massage is a natural solution.

“A recent study found that fibromyalgia patients who received massages regularly reported less pain and better sleep,” said CG Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy Limited, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S.

At Massage Envy clinics, professional therapists can discuss the level of pressure you’re comfortable with and then customize your massage to relieve tight muscles and help reduce stiffness and fatigue.

Massage Envy clinics’ ongoing massage wellness program is convenient, with weeknight and weekend hours.

In addition to fibromyalgia, scientific research also proves that massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress levels, and reduces recovery time in many medical conditions including:

Allergies
Depression and Anxiety

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Asthma and Bronchitis
Circulatory Problems
Insomnia
Sports Injuries
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)

Proper Lotions Key to Lunch Break Massage Leave Feeling Refreshed, Not Sticky and Slick

These days, more and more people are scheduling massage therapy sessions during their lunch breaks, returning to work refreshed and rejuvenated. The lotions used by massage therapists play a major role in the way people feel following a massage session.

There are two distinctive types of massage lotions – those for home use and those for professional use. Of the professional massage lotions, there are hundreds of products and products lines, each with their own unique ingredients and scents.

Massage Envy therapists use only Massage Envy approved lotions – Bon Vital, Soothing Touch, and Biotone brand lotions. Each brand has been producing lotions specifically for professional massage therapists for years.

Since the first Massage Envy clinic opened its doors, they have instilled a “no-aroma” policy to accommodate clients with allergies.

“For sensitive skin it is best to stay away from heavily scented products and ones containing a high amount of oil. The best bet is to request products that are hypo-allergenic, which all Massage Envy clinics use,” says C.G. Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy, the leading provider of massage therapy in the U.S.

In addition, the “no-aroma” policy lends itself to people on-the-go, who might be returning to workplace and want to avoid coating themselves in a disruptive aroma.

All of the products used at Massage Envy clinics can be purchased at individual Massage Envy clinics.
